Change Workbook
Title: Breaking the Cycle — Taking Ownership of Your Healing
Step 1: Identify the Pattern
- Write down three recurring problems you’ve had in the past 5 years.
- Circle any that appear in both personal and professional areas.
Step 2: Trace the Root
- Ask yourself: When did I first start experiencing this problem?
- Write the earliest memory you have of this issue or similar feelings.
- Note if this was modeled by a parent or caregiver.
Step 3: Admit Avoidance
- Write at least two ways you’ve been avoiding dealing with the problem (e.g., distraction, denial, blaming others).
Step 4: Define the Cost
- List the negative effects this problem has had on:
- Your emotional health
- Your relationships
- Your finances
- Your faith/spiritual life
Step 5: Seek Counsel
- Write down three people you could go to for wise, constructive guidance (e.g., counselor, pastor, mentor).
- Commit to contacting one of them within 7 days.
Step 6: Accountability Plan
- Identify a trusted person who will check in weekly.
- Choose a regular meeting or call time.
- Share updates honestly, even when uncomfortable.
Step 7: Daily Responsibility Practice
- Start each day by asking: What action can I take today that brings me closer to resolving my issue?
- End each day by reflecting: Did I face my problems today or avoid them?
Step 8: Faith & Character Work
- Spend at least 10 minutes daily in prayer, scripture, or reflection focused on humility, wisdom, and perseverance.
- Memorize Proverbs 12:15 — “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”
